Smart, Green & Growing is: (a) a resource for “green” information and services, (b) a gathering place to share sustainable ideas, (c) a tool to track state progress, or (d) all of the above?
We created the Smart, Green & Growing Initiative in 2009 to provide a place for citizens, businesses, organizations and governments to come together to strengthen our economy, protect our environment, and improve our quality of life –all components of a more sustainable future.
From adopting smart growth policies and growing green jobs, to improving transit and revitalizing our communities, SGG is helping us make informed choices, both about the kind of future we envision for our State and the actions we must take to realize that vision.
Today our interactive PlanMaryland, GreenPrint and AgPrint maps are helping guide growth and protection of our most important landscapes. BayStat is allowing citizens to track our Bay restoration progress. Businesses are sharing green practices, and coastal communities are addressing climate change and its impacts. Citizens are conserving energy, growing out young oysters and planting new trees, and young Marylanders are learning about and connecting with their natural world. To better understand how all of the choices we're making affect our prosperity as a State, our new Genuine Progress Indicator is factoring social and environmental costs and values into our traditional economic indicators.
It is by working together to make these choices that we are creating a stronger economy, a healthier environment and a greener, more sustainable future for all Maryland families. Thank you for being part of the solution.
